About

Hi, my name is Mickey. I am an Australian living in China and this is my blog about travel, teaching, ethical living, animals, music and life in general.

I love traveling, but unlike most people I don’t just go places for a few days or weeks. Instead I like to take my time and experience different cultures. I prefer to spend months living in the places I choose to go. Previously, I have lived in Washington County, Pennsylvania, USA as part of a study abroad program. I currently live in Fuzhou, China where I am an English teacher.

Most people who know me associate me with animals. I am one of those people who will not just stop to pat every dog I see but I will even cross the road to get to pat any dog. Unfortunately enjoying traveling as much as I do makes it difficult to have a dog live with me. One of the ways I made up for this before moving to China was to dog-sit for friends and family

I have a degree in Sociology and Women’s Studies. I think it is important for us all to live as ethically as possible and to work to improve the world in whatever way we can. We need to help those whose voices often go unheard and make an effort to not harm others. No positive change we make is too small.

One of my biggest passions is music. The first bands I got into were pop-punk, like Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, Green Day and Blink-182. Since then my music taste has evolved into heavier genres but I still enjoy listening to the bands that first made me fall in love with music. After my year in China I hope to get in to the live music industry as a stagehand or audio tech.

This blog will include details of my experiences living in China, being a teacher and my life. In addition, I will share some of my tips and tricks for traveling (in China and in general), getting by in a foreign country and how to adapt to a whole new lifestyle.

I hope you will enjoy the unique perspective I bring to the world of travel and lifestyle blogs and please feel free to interact with me on my site or through social media.
